For those of you who read the Young House Love blog or have purchased their debut book... you'll have seen mentions of Project #2 - How to Stencil a rug.
Well, since I already owned the stencil from my master bedroom stenciling project, and tons of paint lying around... the only purchase was this rug from Ikea at $59.99 + tax.
My girlfriend and I tackled 2 rugs in an afternoon. I say I have tons of paint lying around (and I do!) but we completed this project at her house, so I got to choose colours from her tons of paint lying around.
It was relatively easy to line up and since the rug itself is so textured, you can use a sponge or pouncer to apply paint as lightly or heavily as you'd like. For heavy application, do several light coats as opposed to loading your sponge with paint and causing bleedthrough.
My girlfriend and I love our rugs and it was a simple afternoon project for both rugs. I highly recommend! The eventual wear and tear of the rug will just add to the appeal of the rug. And hey, if it eventually wears off completely - we could always re-stencil it!
Hers is very distinct thanks to the white paint, whereas mine is very subtle... in some light, and at some angles - you can hardly see the pattern!
What DIY projects have you been upto lately?
Happy Friday :)
